Dec 17

So ... today and this week are "working on the Culminating Activity" times. I'm hoping that my students can take advantage of the links on the right hand of the screen to help with their respective CA's.

You can always work on the rough copies during the Break, as it is due just after we get back.

I hope everything is awesome!

Dec 14 update

I posted a few helpful links for the Senior English course I'm currently teaching today.

We also talked about / took up question 11 and 12 while in class today.

All good. Hope Tuesday is better than today ....

Dec 9 update

So today we talked a little bit about the Culminating for the course. I gave "use a blog" option my best effort to the class.

Again, if you want to use "dead tree things" to scratch your answers on to complete the CA, yes, I'll take it. I'll have to welcome you back to high school in 1985, too. Wasn't a bad year to go to high school, by the way....

We then clicked on the link for the film Fahrenheit 451and watched to about 16th minute of the film. We stopped and chatted a bit about what we were seeing, too.

Dec 8 update

Well, we read to page 50 and I handed out the Culminating Activity.

I;ll post more links and helpful stuff about how to do that Activity well on this blog over the next week or so.

In any case, I also thought to embed the film for the novel we are studying here, too:

Hope everything is awesome.

Dec 4 update

So we got reading today ... and we got to page 45.

It was nice to read on a Friday. Pleasant.

In any case, we got stuff done, and everyone went home happy and full of the spirit of the season.

Dec 2 update

So this week ... well, it's making it's way forward. Good enough for most people and it's good enough for me.

We got some reading done - we got to page 30 in the text ... which is a little behind where I wanted to be, to be frank. We'll make it up later. We also got questions 1-5 assigned and taken up in class so far.

If you are not there .. well, you need to catch up.

If you aren't coming to class, you need to be here.

Take me, take me!

Nov 23 update

So we spent this week and today working on our writing of an essay.

I saw most draft versions of essays today ... something like 66% of the class had it done ... which I can work with. We decided that tomorrow, Nov 24 was the due date.

Just polish it up, should be good to go.

Then on to the web quest on F451!

Woo!

We finished the week with an almost final draft version of the essay.

We also settled on Tuesday Nov 24th as the due date for the final version.

On Monday, we are starting a novel study on this:

Update for Oct 23

Today we read until page 87 in the text. There were some discussions about the questions we have been doing in class and some additions to the ideas we've already had for question 7 and 9.

In addition I assigned question 8 from the list of Questions on the Text.

I also set a dead line for part two of the novel study as November 12, 2015. That will be the second half of the questions, second half of the vocabulary, the elements of the novel and the character sketches we will get done.

Ok, keep yourselves safe, see you Monday.

Update for Oct 14

We read ... we read until our eyeballs came out of our head ... not really.

We read to the end of Chapter 5 ... and we had fun.

We should be working our way through the Vocabulary list ... I'll make sure that the students know about the due date tomorrow.

Other than that, it's all good.

Oct 8

We got to reading today ... we were a little late, as the group let out late ...

in any case, we got to about page 32 in the text.

I mean ... that's all we could get done today ... it's all good.

Here's a puppy

Oct 5

We've moved on to our next unit, a novel study.

You should have a copy of the Unit Outline, and with that a series of questions that will be assigned after each day of reading.

Keep in mind that I will also be getting you to work on a vocabulary list and character sketches as well as a theme study and other literary terms.

First due date is October 14th. I'll post the picture of the sheet in the room today.

So far we've had questions 1, 3, 2 and 5 assigned for homework.

Sept 16

Today we took up the homework on the first story of the course.

We then took a look at the terms for the unit, too.

Then .... well, that was it, as we ran out of time. Which is ok.

Tomorrow, we're watching the Gary V 2011 keynote. Questions in class.

Tuesday Sept 15

Well, we did our first story together, reading "The Fun they Had" by Issac Assimov in class.

What. A. Classic.

In any case, I also took my students through the questions, and I pointed out the upcoming assignments. I did not publish the due dates yet, but I will by the end of the week.

An excellent start!

First Day

If you are reading this, cool.

This is a place where I'll help you out catching up on things as they happen in my class. You know, just in case stuff happens and you're not in school that day.

Assignment due dates and reminders will also be posted here, along with a lot of really silly jokes.
